Tips to get back on track after binge-eating
There are multiple instances in our life when we don't have control over what and how much we eat. Going overboard with our favorite foods may give us momentary pleasure but end up causing more harm than good. But do not stress out, you just need to be careful about a few things after experiencing an episode of binge eating.
Go for a walk
After overeating, going for a walk may help you relax and feel better both physically and mentally. Walking has been demonstrated as a way to empty the stomach, which may lessen uncomfortable feelings of bloating or fullness induced by overeating. Long walks help in burning calories and, more significantly, pace up the process of digestion and blood sugar regulation.
Stay hydrated
If you have binge-eaten high-salt and high-sugar foods as well as alcohol, drinking water can help. But make sure you drink enough water at least 30 minutes after overeating as it helps in digestion. Experts believe that it's one of the best ways to reboot your body. Drinking water also assists in increasing metabolism which leads to quick digestion and absorption.
Get sleep
After an episode of overeating, getting enough sleep is a smart strategy to ward off cravings and start the next day well. Many reports have suggested a direct link between sleep deprivation and increased food intake. Thus, to obtain a good night's sleep, try going to bed a bit earlier than usual. If you feel uncomfortable, go for a short walk and then sleep.
Avoid skipping meals
You may feel the urge to skip meals after a binge eating session as your stomach may feel full. However, if you are not sleepy then it is better to not skip your meals. Skipping meals might exacerbate your cravings and increase the possibility of another binge session. Thus, it is always advised to have something light.
