Five animals you didn't realize could make great pets
When people talk about adopting a new pet, perhaps the first set of options that comes to mind are cats and dogs. But there is more to pets than these usual suspects. So, if you don't mind going out of line, know that there are plenty of animals to choose from. Here are five animals you never knew could be great pets.
Chickens: Feeding them is quite cheap and easy
Yes, chickens do need some space to run around, but that doesn't necessarily mean that you will need a big farm to host them. Even a typical urban house will have enough space to accommodate a couple of chickens. Further, since chickens tend to feed mostly on bugs, pests and leftovers, feeding them wouldn't be much trouble. Bonus: Free eggs on a regular basis.
Parrots: A loving companion for life
If you want a pet you would never have to say goodbye to, get yourself a parrot. These charming creatures can live upwards of 80 years, becoming your companion perhaps for most of your life. On top of that, parrots are known for their affection toward their adopters. If getting a bird for pet sounds like no problem, you will love your parrot.
Pot-bellied pig: Smaller, smarter and cleaner than the farm pigs
Pet-bellied pigs aren't your regular farm pigs that grow up to become bacon. These are smaller, smarter, and way more clean than them. Further, it is quite easy to train them. Quite like how dogs function, these pigs also need good diet and regular exercise (like walks) in order to stay healthy. And they love attention too.
Chinchillas: Low-maintenance pets that are utterly soft and adorable
Another unpopular choice of pet, these South American creatures will be a great pick as they are so soft and cute, you wouldn't want to put them down once you get hold of one. Further, chinchillas are quite low-maintenance, in the sense that they don't ask for a lot of space and food. And no, they do not smell bad.
#5: Ferrets: These highly-energetic little animals are quite fun
If you can handle an energetic creature as pet, go for a ferret. These are highly enthusiastic and curious little animals and are therefore, quite fun to have around. And although they can be temperamental at times, you can train them to be calm overtime.
