A step-by-step guide to the perfect night-time skincare routine
Do you know that your skin undergoes a lot of repair at night? This is one reason why you should take your night-time skincare routine extremely seriously. The order of applying skincare products makes a significant difference to your skin. If you're not following the correct order, it is all pointless. Although different skin types demand different treatments, here's a general rule to follow.
Remove makeup
First, use a gentle makeup remover. You can go for micellar water, a very coveted skin tonic makeup remover or an oil-based remover to get rid of waterproof makeup. Next, use a gentle antioxidant-rich cleanser that will not strip your skin of the natural oils. This process of double cleansing is highly popular in Korea and has gained acceptance worldwide.
Toner
Toner helps balance pH levels and moisture levels of your skin. Toners can also calm the skin, keep it refreshed, and visibly reduce pores. Many toners contain alcohol, which can dry out your skin and cause irritation. Check the ingredients list and opt for those without alcohol if you have sensitive skin. Use toners that have aloe vera, vitamin E, ginseng, and elderberry.
Treatment
Serums are usually the most expensive skincare products and must be applied just after toner. Based on your skin type and requirement, you can choose from an array of brightening serums, anti-aging serums, or hydrating serums. Serums get absorbed into the skin quickly and boost hydration. People with acne-prone skin should not skip on serums thinking they might add to the grease.
Eye cream
Eye creams provide the thin skin around your eyes with a targeted treatment. The skin in that area is extremely sensitive, and hence chances of dark circles and fine lines are very high. Eye creams nourish the skin and prevent dullness. They also fight the morning puffiness and brighten up your eyes. While purchasing eye creams, look for those with peptides.
Moisturize
Finally, it's time to hydrate your skin. Choose a hydrating moisturizer that won't clog your pores. Products with hyaluronic acid help your skin retain moisture. Moisturizing can reduce the appearance of any existing blemishes. Moisturizing helps your skin stay young and fights wrinkles. For night-time, choose a night cream that hydrates, as well as fights signs of aging.
