Why Sudha Murthy is trending on X
Author and philanthropist Sudha Murthy is one of the most well-known and respected figures in the country. Wife of Infosys founder Narayana Murthy and mother-in-law of British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, Murthy has been gaining public attention for her simple lifestyle. Lately, her statements on food choices shared during an interview with food critic Kunal Vijjayakar have been doing rounds on X (formerly Twitter).
Being pure vegetarian
In a recent episode of Vijjayakar's food show, Khaane Mein Kaun Hai, Sudha Murthy disclosed her pure vegetarian diet, stating, "I am a pure vegetarian, I don't even eat eggs or garlic." One of her biggest concerns is the possibility of the same spoon being used for both vegetarian and non-veg dishes. "It (the thought) weighs on my mind a lot!" she shared.
Murthy prepares her own food when abroad
She also admitted that when she visits other countries, she looks for vegetarian restaurants or cooks her own food. She added that she carries her own bag of food of 25-30 chapattis, some fried sooji or rava and cooking supplies including a small cooker. Her comments triggered multiple reactions on the internet. While some agree and respect her perception, others beg to differ.
Bringing Rishi Sunak to the picture
Netizens went to various extremes to express their concern. A user posted a photo of Sunak holding a selection of meats and asked, "You keep seperate cutlery for your mom in Law? And your children are not allowed to touch their grandma?" "Someone tell Sudha Murthy not to touch her son-in-law, daughter and their kids," read another comment.

"We should not judge people based on their food preferences or other personal habits. Instead, we should focus on treating everyone with respect, regardless of their caste," commented one user. While some users are irked by Murthy's simplicity, one trolled her, "On Foreign trips, Sudha Murthy carries her house along with her, what if the hotel room was used by another person..."
