Hong Kong is offering snake pizza! Would you taste it
Pizza chains are constantly inventing and creating newer pizza toppings and flavors to stay atop the competition. Now, the popular American pizza chain, Pizza Hut has decided to put a new spin on traditional Hong Kong food by offering snake pizza. The company has partnered with Ser Wong Fun, a century-old Central Hong Kong restaurant serving snake soup, to offer this special food.
For the love of snake stew
For a long time, snake stew has been a beloved dish among diners in Hong Kong and the nearby areas of southern China, particularly during winter. The pizza chain is serving Hongkongers a taste of their favorite food. The new dish which includes Chinese dried ham, black mushrooms, and shredded snake meat—all essential components of a real snake stew, went on sale last week.
Many believe the meat to have medicinal properties
In Hong Kong, there's a local belief that consuming snake soup not only offers comfort on cold days but also contributes to skin health and internal warmth. Snake meat is believed to have therapeutic benefits that can improve skin conditions and increase body temperature. It is often consumed in Southeast Asian countries. Snakes are even raised on farms for culinary purposes.
Served with cheese and chicken
According to CNN, this pizza is paired with cheese and diced chicken, based on a common belief in traditional Chinese medicine that the addition of nourishing meat can boost blood circulation. The snake pizza comes with an abalone sauce foundation rather than a traditional tomato base. The 9-inch limited edition pizza is available in Pizza Hut Hong Kong outlets for purchase until November 22.
Other strange pizzas in the world
This is not the first time Pizza Hut has served unique varieties. In Malaysia, the pizza chain served pizza with a durian flavor which is one of the smelliest ingredients in the world. In Australia, kangaroo meat can be found in many different eateries and different forms. One of the unique ways Australians sample it is as kangaroo pizza.
