Diffusers v/s scented candles: Which is the best
Scented candles and diffusers are both commonly used to introduce delightful fragrances into your living spaces, yet they possess unique characteristics concerning their functionality, advantages, and drawbacks. They are both in trend, so which is better? According to Ridhima Kansal, director of Rosemoore, the choice between scented candles and diffusers ultimately depends on personal preferences and the desired ambiance one wishes to achieve.
How do they function?
Scented candles release fragrance as they burn and the scent is typically present for the duration of the candle's burning time. "However, a diffuser uses essential oils and the scent is dispersed into the air as long as the diffuser is on," Kansal says. Diffusers employ various methods, like ultrasonic vibrations, heat, or fans, to disperse essential oils into the air as a mist.
Which one is safer?
"While the scented candles are generally safe when used responsibly, there is a risk concerning open flames," says Kansal. Additionally, candles can produce soot and pollute the indoor air. "It is not advised to leave them open with kids and pets around. On the other hand, diffusers are generally safe as there is no flame involved," she added.
Mood enhancers
Scented candles can serve as decorative items. They create a warm, cozy ambiance with their flickering flames and can add to the overall aesthetic of a room. Further, it can enhance the mood and create a sense of comfort. Meanwhile, diffusers use essential oils, which can offer potential health benefits like stress reduction, improved sleep, and enhanced mood.
It all comes down to personal preferences
Putting an end to the debate, the expert says that it entirely depends on the preferences, safety concerns and the user experience. "Some people prefer the ambiance and the convenience that a scented candle gives, while others appreciate the therapeutic benefits and the continuous diffusion of the fragrance of a diffuser and some like to experience/enjoy the best of both worlds," she says.
