Russian man embeds chip in brain, wants to control dreams
A Russian researcher named Michael Raduga claims to have implanted a chip into his brain through which he hopes to control his dreams, last month. Per sources, he performed the neurosurgery himself at his home in Kazakhstan and took a whopping 10 hours to get the chip in place. Reportedly, Raduga "lost a lot of blood" while putting himself under the knife.
The man has no neurosurgery qualifications
Raduga told Daily Mail that he has no neurosurgery experience or qualifications. He held his skin and other parts of his head with paper clips and used a drill from a hardware store to open his skull. Per reports, he was ready to give up several times during the first 30 minutes of the process as he lost "approximately a liter of blood."
'I'm glad I survived but I was ready to die'
Although Raduga was afraid he would lose consciousness owing to blood loss, it stop him from achieving the implantation. He told Daily Mail that he is glad that he survived but was ready to even die if it didn't work. The man believes that the procedure can become very useful one day as it would help people enter their lucid dreams.
He removed the chip 5 weeks after implantation
If sources are to be believed, Raduga removed the implanted chip five weeks after he first carried out the procedure. Now, there are multiple risks associated with his brain health because of long-lasting damage and blood loss. Alex Green of the University of Oxford told Daily Mail that what Raduga did is an "extremely dangerous thing to do."
We are 'probably decades away' from controlling our dreams: Green
Adding further to his statement, Green said that neurosurgery should only be practiced by experienced and qualified neurosurgeons as there are several complications associated with it. He also revealed that humankind is "probably decades away" from inventing a device or procedure that helps one controls their dreams or enter some lucid ones at will. One should not try anything like this at home.
What are lucid dreams?
Lucid dreams are those that you know you are dreaming of while you are asleep. You are aware that the incidents and flashes happening through your mind aren't real but they are so vivid and graphically descriptive that you remember all their details. While their downsides include a drop in sleep quality, they also help improve creativity and problem-solving skills.
