Russian political leaders to introduce 'dating marathon' for 'lonely' youth
Amid the recent studies showing an increase in lonely youths in Russia, the political leaders of the country have taken it upon themselves to tackle the issue. The Liberal Democratic Party of Russia (LDPR) has now invited youths from across the country to participate in an upcoming in-person dating forum, named "LDPR with Love." The event is scheduled for September.
Increasing loneliness in the country
Recent statistics show growing loneliness among Russian youth. According to the data shared in the LDPR's latest invitation, around 54.4% of men aged between 20 and 34, and about 42.9% of women in the same age group, currently lack a partner. This comes at a time when dating apps like Tinder stopped working in Russia, as part of war sanctions.
The forum aims to fill the void left by Tinder
According to the party, this forum aka dating marathon aims to fill the void created among the youth after the United States-based dating platform Tinder stopped its service in Russia. LDPR leader Leonid Slutsky suggests that forums like "LDPR with Love" might provide a platform for lonely people to connect and that other areas might adopt the idea as well.
The 'dating marathon' aims to unify youths
The event is an attempt towards being the "largest dating marathon in Russia." According to a statement posted on the party's official website, the forum intends to help people find their life partners within their cities by bringing them together based on shared interests. The statement highlighted the urgency of finding happiness by stating that many individuals have already signed up for the gathering.
Applicants to be evaluated and guided by psychologists
Interested participants may apply for the forum till August 10. Each of these applications will be then thoroughly examined by a group of psychologists who will then offer recommendations and guidance on suitable partners. LDPR claims that the procedure is similar to that of Tinder. The party attempts to give participants a familiar and comfortable experience by drawing comparisons to Tinder's application procedure.
