Expert-approved tips to beat dull and frizzy colored hair
If you're feeling disappointed about dyeing your hair due to it looking lifeless and frizzy, it is time to turn that frown upside down and take action to address the issue. Clelia Cecilia Angelon, founder and CEO of Surya Brasil, provides effective solutions to nurture colored hair from its core. Bid farewell to frizz, and welcome vibrant, resilient, and healthy locks with these tips.
Colored hair needs special care
It's no secret that colored hair requires gentle washing for the colors to last longer. However, due to sweat, you must shampoo frequently during monsoon. "The key to achieving balance is to use a color fixation shampoo and conditioner. They contain gentle cleaning chemicals that regulate the pH of the scalp and make the hair strands stronger by providing nutrition and hydration," says Angelon.
Use henna instead of harsh chemicals to color
Natural henna paste is a fantastic alternative to hair dyes. "However, ensure that the henna is free of lesser-known harsh compounds such as TEA, DEA, sulfates, PPD, resorcinol, and hydrogen peroxide," warns Angelon. Blend natural henna with Ayurvedic or Brazilian herbs or beetroot and pomegranate to develop various hair colors. Henna not only conceals grays but also nourishes your hair and scalp.
Avoid ammonia and its byproducts
While chemicals may produce immediate results, they are harmful in the long term. "Harsh chemical-based hair dyes, which frequently contain ammonia and its byproducts such as Ethanolamine, Dietanolamine, and Triethanolamine, may cause cancer in severe circumstances," says Angelon. When selecting hair care products, examine the labels to ensure they are free of cancer-causing parabens and sulfates, which can cause hormonal imbalance in severe cases.
Ditch the habit of vigorous towel drying
"When we towel dry our hair vigorously, we shake the hair's already fragile roots, resulting in increased hair fall during the rainy season. This friction can harm the cuticles of the hair, reducing its insulating properties," explains Angelon. She advises, "The best remedy is to carefully wrap your hair in a soft cloth to soak up additional water. Then let your hair air dry."
Use hair masks
Colour fixation hair masks are a godsend for colored hair. "Combined with Amazonian butters and oils, these masks offer vital nutrients. Apply them at least twice a week post-shampoo for optimal results. It not only fortifies and safeguards color-treated hair but also imparts shine. It benefits non-dyed hair as well," suggests Angelon. Protecting against environmental elements like pollution and dry weather is equally vital.
