Overeating during parties: Ayurveda solutions for easy digestion
As we bid farewell to the year amidst festive celebrations and indulgent feasts, many of us have savored our favorite foods without a second thought. While taste often takes precedence over calorie considerations, this penchant for indulgence frequently leads to overeating. Shrawan Daga, founder and CEO of Krishna's Herbal & Ayurveda, shares valuable Ayurveda tips to navigate this post-festivity period.
When at a party, try to eat mindfully
According to Daga, eating mindfully in a peaceful environment and chewing your food properly without any distractions is the first step to aiding the digestive process. While tea, coffee, and aerated beverages, are on every party's menu, he suggests that they should be best avoided "as they cause excessive production of acid" and keep your body active during sleep.
Steer clear of vinegar, garlic, sour foods, and sugary offerings
"Avoid the use of garlic, vinegar or sour items to prepare food as it can lead to acid reflux and discomfort. Also avoid excessive chili, spices or salt in your food, as it can lead to inflammation of the stomach lining thereby causing discomfort," says Daga. "Certainly avoid heavy meals late at night as they put stress on the digestive system," he adds.
Daga lists some Ayurvedic ingredients that can help you
The Ayurvedic expert mentions that ingredients like peplamool, sounth, harad, bahera, marich, amla, pippali, sendha namak, choti elaichi, munakka, nishoth etc. are great to nourish the digestive health, promoting its optimal functioning. "When combined and consumed in a juice form twice a day, it can lead to overall gut wellness, optimized nutrient absorption, and also alleviate discomfort," he adds.
Triphala is a godsend for those with digestive issues
"Triphala juice or tablets consisting of three Ayurvedic herbs- amla, harad, and baheda is another way to detoxify the body and have better gut health," says Daga. Amla boosts the body's metabolism and promotes digestion. Harad maintains digestive health while baheda manages flatulence and bloating, and helps in balancing the tridoshas, he adds. You can savor triphala powder after checking with an Ayurvedic doctor.
