National Pasta Day: How to make vegan pasta from scratch
Being vegan doesn't have to prevent you from enjoying the pleasure of pasta, a well-known comfort dish. Crafting homemade vegan pasta can be an incredible culinary adventure, allowing you to relish the flavors of a wholesome meal in the comfort of your home. On National Pasta Day, let us guide you through the process of making delightful vegan pasta from scratch.
Kneading the dough
Semolina flour, flour, water, and a dash of salt are all you need. Simply knead the ingredients until you get a soft pasta dough. If you are a gluten-free eater, choose gluten-free flour. You can also add vegetable juice or puree for color and flavor. Wrap it in foil and place it in the refrigerator to cool for 30 minutes.
Making noodles
Roll the dough loosely after dusting it with flour. With a knife, slice the noodles as wide as you like. Take each slice and unroll it. You will get long, thin pasta noodles. This is a basic shape. However, instead of gently rolling and cutting the dough, you can use a pasta maker to create other types of pasta, such as penne or fusilli.
Making pasta is a simple process
Fresh vegan pasta is easy to prepare and only takes a few minutes. Boil a pot of water, add salt, and then add the pasta. Cook for two to three minutes. It's ready when the pasta rises to the top of the pan or is at "al dente." Cook the pasta for one or two minutes longer if you prefer them softer.
Serving the pasta
Once you have drained the pasta, serve it with your favorite vegan sauce or toppings. Heat your chosen sauce or toppings in a separate pan over low to medium heat. Be sure it's hot and ready to pour over the pasta. Add your favorite veggies such as mushrooms and zucchini to it. If desired, garnish your dish with vegan cheese and fresh herbs.
