National Fudge Day: Celebrate the occasion with these tempting recipes
The US celebrates National Fudge Day on June 16 every year to mark the existence of this sweet treat that was a result of an accident! Legends have it that a confectioner followed the wrong recipe to make caramel and instead ended up making fudge. Well, we believe they must have said "Oh, fudge! What did I do?" Celebrate today with these fudge-based recipes.
Chocolate fudge
In a pan, add butter, chocolate, and corn syrup. Stir over medium heat until the sugar is dissolved. Bring to a boil, reduce heat to medium-low for some time, cover it, and boil again. Dip a thermometer and cook until it reads 112 degrees Celsius or 234 degrees Fahrenheit. Add vanilla and nuts and mix. Dry it until firm and cut it into pieces.
Peanut butter fudge
Boil sugar, salt, and milk. Stir continuously over medium heat until the thermometer reads 230 degrees Fahrenheit. Once it does, remove from heat and mix in some peanut butter and vanilla extract. Grease a pan with oil, pour this mixture into it, and let it cool at room temperature. When set, cut into pieces and serve.
Walnut fudge
Add condensed milk, butter, vanilla, and cocoa in a pan. Mix well and boil. Make sure you keep stirring continuously. Cook until the candy thermometer shows 230 degrees Fahrenheit. When it does, take it off the heat and add walnuts to it. Immediately, transfer this mixture to an oil-greased plate and allow it to set at room temperature. Later, cut it into pieces.
Oreo fudge
Mix condensed milk and white chocolate, and heat the mixture until the chocolate gets completely dissolved. To this, add vanilla extract, followed by a few crushed Oreo biscuits. Keep cooking on medium flame until the thermometer reads 230 degrees Fahrenheit. Then transfer it to an oil-greased pan and let it set at room temperature. Cut into pieces and serve.
Peppermint fudge
Combine dark chocolate chips and condensed milk in a pan and place it on medium heat. Heat until the chocolate melt or up to five to seven minutes. Stir until smooth. Transfer this concoction into a foil-lined pan and using a wooden spatula, evenly spread it and smoothen the surface. Sprinkle some crushed peppermints and let it set. Cut into pieces and serve.
