National Doughnut Week: 7 recipes for 7 days
'Doughnut' stop us now because we are already craving! The US is celebrating National Doughnut Week from May 20 this year and we believe that it's the perfect excuse to indulge in this baked disk of deliciousness. So to make sure you spend each of this week on a flavorsome note, here are seven doughnut recipes that you must whip up.
Chocolate doughnut
Mix flour, sugar, egg yolk, eggs, butter, yeast, and some milk. Prepare a dough using these ingredients and then allow it to rest for 10 minutes. Roll the dough such that it is nearly two inches thick. Once done, cut a hole in the center using a round cutter. Deep fry till golden brown, cool it, and then dip it in melted chocolate.
Classic butter doughnut
Begin by mixing milk, eggs, butter, yeast, flour, and sugar. Mix well and make dough from it. Let it rest for a few minutes. Once done, apply melted butter to it, roll it well, and ensure it is at least two inches thick. Cut a round in the center using a cutter. Deep fry until it turns golden brown and then serve.
Strawberry doughnut
Whisk flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, eggs, sugar, oil, vanilla, and sour cream. Set aside. Prepare dough and then fold in some fresh chopped strawberries. Roll it into a thick base of about two inches and then cut using a round cutter. Deep fry them until golden brown, let them cool, and then smear some strawberry puree on them before you serve.
Lemon doughnuts
Preheat your oven to 175 degrees Celsius. Mix egg, sugar, yogurt, oil, lemon zest, lemon extract, and yellow food coloring. To this, add flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt and make a dough. Using a round cookie cutter, cut it into a doughnut shape and then bake it. Once done, dip it in lemon glaze by whisking lemon juice and sugar.
Cinnamon doughnuts
Preheat your oven to 177 degrees Celsius. Whisk the flour, baking powder, baking soda, milk, egg, brown sugar, yogurt, vanilla, melted butter, salt, cinnamon powder, and nutmeg powder. Make a thick batter and then spoon it into doughnut cavities. Bake for 10 minutes and then smear it with a mixture of cinnamon, melted butter, and brown sugar. Serve immediately.
Red velvet doughnuts
Preheat your oven to 175 degrees Celsius. Whisk buttermilk, melted butter, red food coloring, vanilla, eggs, flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, brown sugar, and cocoa powder. Spoon this mixture into doughnut pans greased with oil and bake for 10 minutes. In the meantime, prepare frosting by beating cream cheese, vanilla, milk, and butter. Spread this frosting over the cooled doughnuts and serve immediately.
Peanut butter doughnuts
Preheat your oven to 200 degrees Celsius. Whisk flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, salt, sugar, buttermilk, eggs, vanilla extract, and oil. Pour this batter into doughnut pans, bake for 10 minutes, and then allow it to cool down. In a pan, mix peanut butter and melted butter. Once done, glaze it over all the doughnuts and refrigerate. Serve chilled.
