Expert reveals do's and don'ts for monsoon brides-to-be
Calling all brides-to-be getting ready for their main day this monsoon season. As dreamy as it may sound to have a view of gushing rains, things like humidity, rain splashes, and shallow puddles could be challenging. Fret not, you can still look your beautiful best at your wedding with these tips by fashion designer Anu Mehra, founder of Charisma by Anu Mehra.
Choose the right kind of fabric
High humidity and excessive sweating can be a spoilsport. "Go for monsoon-friendly fabrics like silk, chanderi, organza, and organic cotton. They are lightweight and yet hold a shape for longer durations," suggests Mehra. The designer also shares that one should "avoid heavy fabrics like brocade, raw silk, and velvet, as they tend to shrink and create wrinkles when exposed to dampness."
Steer clear of excessive bling
"Embroidery work like gotapatti, zardozi, and dabka can tarnish and fade away if they come in contact with humid air," enlightens the founder of Charisma by Anu Mehra. So what to wear? Well, she suggests, "Opt for outfits with pearls, Swarovski embellishments, thread work, soft sequins, or resham work. They are durable and add that much-needed glam quotient to your wedding outfit.
Go for pastels
Mehra states that pastels are maintenance-friendly and currently in trend in the fashion world. Thus, opting for lighter tones like peach, lilac, ice blue, or baby pink is advisable. "Pastel-colored outfits are apt for monsoons compared to darker shades. The latter is prone to color bleeding in case you get drenched," she shares. "Pick neutrals like beige and ivory for indoor weddings."
Safeguard your jewels
Costume jewelry is affordable and stylish but "easily prone to lose their polish after contact with water, hence they demand extra care," says Mehra. "Pack and store your jewelry in air-tight boxes or ziplock pouches to protect them from getting exposed to moisture or dust," she recommends. When the functions are over, clean them with a dry muslin or cotton cloth.
