    What's the story

Mango pickle is the star of 2023! At least, that's what Google says.

Google recently released the Google's Year In Search list which is an annual report covering the top searched keywords across categories and countries.

And our beloved mango pickle grabbed the top spot in the most searched recipes in India, followed by the recipe for "sex on the beach."

    Pickle

Mango pickle - a mass favorite

In India, people are obsessed with mangos and pickles. It would be difficult to find a household without a jar of mango pickle in the refrigerator.

The delicious mango pickle is one of the most adaptable side dishes in the country.

Popularly known as aam ka achaar, it pairs well with various dishes across the country - right from hot parathas to delectable sadyas.

    List

    Meet the top searched recipes

The second most-searched recipe is for the cocktail "sex on the beach."

Following this were searches for the panchamrit, hakusai, and dhaniya panjiri recipes. Panchamrit, a festive recipe, is primarily used in puja ceremonies and temples. Hakusai is made from Napa cabbage and is commonly used in Chinese dishes.

Meanwhile, dhaniya panjiri, a Janmashtami special recipe, is mainly made from roasted coriander powder.

    Festive list

The top 10 list was dominated by festive recipes

Interestingly, the top 10 names in the list are dominated by festive recipes.

For instance, the flavorful Ugadi pachadi (position eight) is served during the festival of Ugadi, while kolukattai (position nine) is a popular sweet dish prepared during Ganesh Chaturthi.

Similarly, thiruvathirai kali (seventh) is offered as prasad to Lord Shiva and karanji (sixth) is made during festivals like Diwali and Holi.

    Preparation

Here's how to prepare mango pickles

Mango pickles can be prepared in many ways. Here's a basic recipe:

Wash and cut raw mangoes into small pieces. Add some salt and mix it well.

Now, in a kadai, heat mustard or sesame oil. Add mustard seeds, once they splutter, add fenugreek powder, chili powder and turmeric powder.

Turn off the stove and mix this mixture with the mangoes.
