Record-breaking 36-hour swing session leads to heartwarming love connection
Richard Scott, a father of three from the United Kingdom, turned his dream of claiming a Guinness World Records title into reality. He spent 36 hours and 32 minutes swinging on a swing set, securing the record for the longest marathon on a swing. This endeavor also led him to encounter his current girlfriend, Alana Brown, adding a romantic chapter to his remarkable feat.
Scott achieved his record a year ago
He achieved his record in Tayside, Scotland, from May 14 to 15, 2022. The entire event was filmed with a visible clock in the shot, reported BBC. The documentation was then sent to Guinness World Records for verification, a process that took over a year. With his record now confirmed, he has revealed the reason behind taking on this unique challenge.
He revealed his motivation behind taking up this unique challenge
He shared with Guinness World Records his childhood delight in swinging and his curiosity about the longest swing time record, believing he could achieve it. Although the idea waned with age, it resurfaced during a park visit with his now 12-year-old son, Alasdair. As a business owner, he enthusiastically embraced the challenge, propelled by his peak fitness level.
I said, 'I could do that!': Scott
He was having a conversation with his son Alasdair, who was 10 at that time, and shared how he had this notion of attempting a record when he was younger. He explained that he had Googled the swing record and discovered it was 34 hours. "I said, 'I could do that!'" And that's pretty much how the whole idea kicked off.
How he met his girlfriend
Scott approached his local Rotary Club, Kinross and District, for help in securing independent witnesses. The club gladly agreed to participate. Due to the shortage of members to cover four-hour shifts for the entire attempt, they reached out to Rotary Clubs in nearby Buckhaven and Methil for additional assistance. That's when Alana came into the picture. "We met on the swing," said Scott.
He is currently gearing up for his karate black belt
Following their coincidental encounter, they eventually went on a date and continue to be a couple to this day. Scott, aged 53, acknowledges that the record attempt proved to be more challenging than he had anticipated. He maintains his fitness and is currently gearing up for his karate black belt in a matter of weeks. He engages in daily five-kilometer runs and swimming sessions.
