Discovering India's most enchanting kayaking spots

    What's the story

Imagine yourself out on the river, surrounded by nature, and simply taking in all the positive energy — that's the essence of kayaking.

It's a getaway and an alternative perspective on the world, more than just a sport.

Fortunately, India is blessed with many kayaking spots. There's something for every kayaking enthusiast — no matter how skilled you are in the sport.

    Destination 1

    Zanskar River, Leh

One of the best locations in India for the most challenging kayaking and canoeing excursions is the Zanskar River. The journey begins from Spituk on the Indus River and continues to Nimu.

You would experience the ultimate excitement while canoeing across a variety of grade-1 to grade-5 rapids here.

The best time to kayak in Zanskar River is between April to July.

    Destination 2

    Dawki, Meghalaya

Meghalaya's Dawki is yet another fantastic location.

Since it's less crowded, novices can learn kayaking in peace with plenty of room. Known for its pristine water, the Umngot River is typically where the experience begins.

You can see the riverbed through the transparent river.

Visit between October and May to experience the ideal weather and water levels.

    Destination 3

    The Ganges, Rishikesh

The variety of both easy and challenging rapids makes Rishikesh one of the best places in India to go kayaking.

Choosing to row through the waves of the revered Ganges in Rishikesh offers a thrilling 12-kilometer adventure that is truly remarkable.

Kayaking enthusiasts begin their journey from Brahmapuri and end at Triveni ghat in the city.

The best time is between September to June.

    Destination 4

    Teesta River, Sikkim

This is the perfect place for you to learn and practice kayaking if you are one of those travelers who would rather stay away from the crowd and enjoy peace.

The breathtaking mountains and rapids are only a couple of the things that will make your entire experience even more memorable.

December to May is the best time to do kayaking here.

    Destination 5

    Nagin Lake, Srinagar

Compared to the well-known Dal Lake, this lake in the city's east side offers a considerably more tranquil area for relaxation and a lovely place to go kayaking.

While kayaking, you may gaze upon the glistening blue waters mirroring the boundless splendor of the surrounding foliage.

Best to visit between April to October, the lake allows you to paddle at your own pace.
