The 76th Cannes Film Festival is scheduled to start on May 16 and go on till May 27. Every year, the world's top celebrities walk the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival. Many Indian celebrities too grace the event, serving us amazing looks. Here are some of the iconic moments from past red carpet appearances that made India proud.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's fashion moments
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan used to be the only Indian attending major festivals regularly in the early 2000s. In 2003, she was the first Indian actor to participate at Cannes as a jury member. She has consistently donned some of the best attires on the Cannes red carpet. Her 2017 Cinderella gown, her 2018 butterfly couture gown, and her 2002 yellow saree are worth mentioning.

Deepika Padukone's jury debut
In 2022, Deepika Padukone who debuted as an esteemed jury member, walked the red carpet in a fitting Sabyasachi saree that incorporated her Western flair and Indian background on the international stage. Previously, Padukone has garnered attention in the famous purple tulle gown by Ashi Studio, with a voluminous silhouette. Another iconic moment was when she arrived in Zuhair Murad's embroidered white gown.

Mame Khan - first Indian folk singer to attend
Rajasthani singer Mame Khan made history by becoming the first Indian folk musician to walk the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival in 2022. The Chaudhary singer arrived in a vibrant pink kurta set, designed by Anjuli Chakraborty. He had a navy blue embroidered jacket on paired with Rajasthani headgear, and sunglasses. Khan was a part of the official Indian delegation.

Sonam Kapoor Ahuja - the experimenter
One of the pioneering fashionistas of Bollywood, Sonam Kapoor Ahuja has graced the red carpet at Cannes multiple times. She made her debut in 2011 wearing a Jean-Paul Gaultier gown. Since then she is known for experimenting with her looks. Over the years, from sarees to suits, Kapoor has worn some very risky and extravagant outfits to the festival.
When Nandita Das looked drop-dead gorgeous in red silk saree
Filmmaker Nandita Das is always seen gracing the Cannes red carpet in Indian attires ditching elegant gowns. In 2005, for the 58th edition of the film festival, Das walked the red carpet as a member of the jury. She donned a simple yet graceful red uppada silk saree with a golden border. Opting for traditional Indian jewelry she completed her look with a gajra.
