Expert shares how to stay connected with pets using technology
One of the major challenges faced by pet parents is when they have to leave their pets alone at home. However, thanks to the marvels of technology, staying connected with our pets when we're away has made things easy. NewsBytes got in touch with Mr. Varun Sadana, co-founder of Supertails, who shares tips on how you can stay connected with your furballs using technology.
Smart cameras and treat dispensers
Per Sadana, smart pet cameras have gone beyond just offering live streaming. Many models now include treat dispensers. "With a tap on your smartphone, you can reward your pet with their favorite treats or engage them in a game of chase by remotely controlling the movement of the treat dispenser," reveals Sadana. He believes that this keeps them mentally stimulated even when you're away.
Two-way audio
The magic of two-way audio helps you transcend physical barriers. "Pets are incredibly perceptive to familiar voices, so talking to them through the camera's speaker can alleviate separation anxiety and make them feel closer to you," shares Sadana. "Whether it's a calming 'I'll be home soon' or an excited 'Who's a good boy?' - your voice becomes a comforting presence," he adds.
Virtual playtime
Interactive toys have transformed playtime into a shared experience, even from a distance. "Some toys can be controlled via mobile apps, allowing you to initiate play sessions, trigger movements, and even emit sounds that mimic the chirps of birds or the scurrying of prey," shares the Supertails co-founder. This engagement keeps your pet entertained and strengthens the bond you share with them.
Wearable tech
Wearable devices are revolutionizing pet care by offering insights into their daily activities. "GPS trackers not only prevent the anxiety of losing a pet but also enable you to set up geofences, receiving alerts if your pet strays beyond defined boundaries," enlightens Sadana. "Activity monitors provide data on their fitness, ensuring they're getting the physical activity they need, even during your absence," he adds.
Pet-specific apps
The pet tech landscape now hosts apps designed to streamline every aspect of pet parenting. "From scheduling feeding times and dispensing treats remotely to monitoring health data and setting up virtual playdates with other pets," there's a lot you can do, says Sadana. According to him, these apps centralize essential tasks and provide a virtual hub for all things related to your pet.
