Ways you can use peels of your favorite citrus fruits
Citrus fruits such as oranges, lemons, grapefruits, etc. are among the most-loved seasonal favorites, best enjoyed for their flavorful and health benefits. However, did you know that their peels, which you may simply trash away thinking as inedible, can be used in a variety of creative ways in your daily tasks? Don't believe us? Well, let's help you change your mind.
Clean your home
Peels of citrus fruits can be used to clean your home and get rid of those stubborn stains that refuse to go with ordinary detergents. Immerse some orange peels in white vinegar for about two weeks, strain the solution, and dilute it in some water before finally using it to clean your microwave, fridge doors, and stovetops.
Chase plant pests away
Thanks to their strong scent, you can use lemon and orange peels to chase away plant pests that affect the health of your green friends. They work great, especially in the case of ants and aphids. All you have to do is, place lemon and orange peels around the affected plants or hang them on the stems where pest infestation is high.
Make essential oils
After eating your favorite citrus fruits, don't throw their peels away. Instead, use them to make essential oils to accentuate your skincare routine. Begin by removing as much pith as possible from the peels, dry them, and then cut them into small pieces. Pour this mixture in one part of apple cider vinegar and two parts of water. Shake well and apply.
Infuse in your tea
Orange peels can be used to blend with your regular tea for more flavor and health benefits. Simply, mince orange peel into tiny bits and let them dry for about two days. Once dried, mix them with looseleaf black tea and if you wish, add fennel seeds, cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, and cloves to it. Mix and make tea using this blend.
