Want to start writing a diary? Here's how to begin
Are you someone who always thinks about writing a diary, but fails to ultimately start it? Writing about your feelings and thoughts in a diary can help enhance your thinking process and promote creative ideas. Venting out in the diary also helps to deal with stress, anxiety and can help you find an emotional balance. Here's how to embark on this solo journey.
Decide what you want to write about
You need to be clear about what you want to write. Having clarity at the start will help you kickstart the process easily. The topics can range from travel to food, family to friends, your professional life, or your aspirations. You can also simply use it to keep a track of your thoughts, emotions, feelings, and the way you react to situations.
Dedicate the first page to the topic; decide a schedule
After selecting your preferred topic, make sure that the first page is dedicated to the topic. Describe the topic and what made you choose it. Also, mention the purpose of maintaining a diary. Then, decide upon a schedule about how frequently you want to write in it. You can write once a week or pen down your thoughts daily before bedtime.
Date your entries; feel free to write anything
Make sure to mention the date and time every time you make an entry in your diary. This will help you to recollect memories and keep track of your progress. Also, give each entry an informative and interesting headline. It's your personal diary, so feel free to write whatever you want. Write things candidly and honestly, like you are talking to a trusted friend.
Be creative and have fun
Writing in your diary should not feel like a task for you. Instead, it should be a place where you can find freedom, solace, and can simply be yourself. Get creative and draw some doodles in your diary in between the write-ups. Write about things you are passionate about. This will release your stress and make the process fun.
Invest in a good quality and fun diary
Before you start maintaining a diary, make sure you buy one that you will enjoy writing in. Choose one with high-quality paper as writing on flimsy paper doesn't feel good. You can even pick one up that has a theme--such as your favorite TV show (I have one of F.R.I.E.N.D.S.), or a place, etc. A diary with motivational quotes also works well.
