How to get rid of stubborn Holi colors
All ready to sway to the tunes of Balam pichkari and Rang barse this March 18? If you're happy that you'll get to play Holi this year after a gap of two sad years of the pandemic, be prepared to save your skin and hair from the harmful chemicals of the colors. Follow these simple tricks to make your post-Holi clean-up less stressful.
Prevention is better than cure
"Apply coconut, olive or almond oil on your skin before stepping out to play with colours. Oil creates a protective layer that acts as a barrier stopping colors from settling into follicles of hair and our skin," suggests Harsh Jain, Co-founder of a leading organic skincare brand. "The greasy layer will enable the color to wash out easily post the celebrations."
Protect your hands and nails
While you might be able to get rid of the colors from your face easily, they stick to your nails for weeks. To stop this from happening, apply a coat of dark nail polish to prevent colors from sticking to the nails. After playing Holi, you'll notice your nails become yellowish. Soak your nails in lemon juice for 10 minutes to avoid it.
Skincare
-Make a paste of wheat flour and oil and apply it to your skin. Leave it for a few minutes and gently massage. Then, wash off with a natural cleanser. -Apply coconut oil on your face to melt away the colors then use a face wash. -Use cold water to remove colors. -Bathe with natural soaps to provide nourishment to your skin.
Haircare
-Oil your hair well before playing Holi. -Post-celebrations, apply a homemade hair mask using yogurt or eggs. Wash it off with a mild shampoo. The mask will nourish your hair and avoid any kind of damage. -You can also make a paste with soaked fenugreek seeds in yogurt and apply this to your scalp. Wash off with a good shampoo after 30 minutes.
Post-Holi care
Do not get any skin or hair treatment like facials, waxing, bleach, or hair color within ten to 15 days from Holi. Give your skin and hair some rest before you use more chemicals on them as they become very sensitive during this time. Apply a Multani mitti face pack on alternate days for the next week for soft and supple skin.
