5 quick stress busters that really work
Your mental health should come first, and yes, over everything else. If you're not mentally fit, you will not be able to perform as well as you are expected to, and that will ruin every possible aspect of your life. For those who often feel stressed at work or due to family drama, here are a few quick stress-relieving tricks for one and all.
Try the 4-7-8 breathing technique
This breathing technique calms you and helps you fall asleep. Relax your body and bring the tip of your tongue behind your upper front teeth. Part your lips slightly and exhale through your mouth in a whooshing sound. Inhale through your nose for four seconds, hold your breath for seven seconds, and then exhale through your mouth for eight seconds, making the same sound.
Run cold water over your wrists and apply behind ears
Your body tends to heat up when you feel stressed or anxious. Open the tap and hold your wrists under cold running water and relax for a couple of minutes. Also, rub the back of your ears with cold water. These are areas where major arteries pass through right under the skin. Cooling these areas can calm the whole body.
Eat dark chocolate
Dark chocolate is known to adjust levels of the stress hormone called cortisol. Researchers of a recent study have said that dark chocolate appeared to be beneficial to people's gut microbial activity as well. Also called unsweetened chocolate, dark chocolate is rich in antioxidants and helps protect your heart health and improve the blood flow throughout your body.
Take a brisk walk
A great and healthy way to de-stress is walking or jogging. These activities not only calm your mind but also clear your mind and help you think differently or see things from a different perspective. Any form of exercise releases endorphins, that make you relaxed, and uplift your mood. Try to wear shoes with good arch support, a steady heel, and flexible soles.
Stretch
It's time you acknowledge that you need a break. Even when there's a rush to complete work, which is probably what's stressing you out, take out five minutes. Stretching helps with discomfort and relieves stress. Clasp your hands together, and stretch them upward over your head with palms facing outwards. Hold for 10 seconds. Standing up, twist your torso on both sides.
