Durga Puja makeup hacks for a flawless festive look
Makeup queens assemble! If you're an ardent pandal hopper, maintaining a flawless look in Kolkata's humid weather during Durga Puja can be challenging. However, with the right techniques and products, you can stay fresh throughout the day despite the heat and crowded conditions. Here are expert tips from Ms. Aashka Goradia Goble, co-founder of Renee Cosmetics, to help you maintain your bold kohl look.
Primer is your best friend
"To create a solid base for your makeup and prevent it from melting, start with a mattifying primer. This not only gives you a smooth canvas but also controls excess oil, ensuring your makeup lasts longer," says Goble. Primer helps control oil and reduce shine, which can be particularly effective in preventing makeup from melting or becoming too oily in humid conditions.
Opt for waterproof makeup
Given the heat and crowds, you're likely to sweat a lot during your pandal hopping sessions. "To prevent smudging and smearing, especially with your eye and brow makeup, opt for waterproof products," recommends Goble. Waterproof mascara, eyeliner, and eyeshadow are particularly popular because they are less likely to create "raccoon eyes" when in contact with water, a feature especially useful on hot days.
Apply long-lasting foundation
It's crucial to pick a foundation that can withstand the rigors of pandal hopping without wearing off, leaving your skin looking uneven or cakey. Choosing a long-lasting foundation involves considering your skin type, the occasion, and the formula of the foundation. Seek out foundations labeled as "long-wear," "long-lasting," "matte," or "full-coverage." These formulations are often designed to stay put for an extended period.
Use a setting spray
After completing your makeup, finish it off with a setting spray. Setting spray forms an invisible film on your face acting as a protective barrier between your makeup and the external environment. "This will not only lock in your makeup but also help it endure the heat and humidity," explains Goble. Some sprays provide hydration, ideal for dry skin and achieving a dewy finish.
Pack on-the-go makeup products
Pack some travel-friendly and easy-to-use products for quick touch-ups on the go. Carry items like lipstick, compact powder, concealer, eyeliner, q-tips, and a mini setting spray. Also remember to stay hydrated throughout the day and make sure you remove your makeup thoroughly before going to bed so that your skin relaxes, repairs itself and keeps it clear and glowing.
