Cuteness overload! It's National Puppy Day
When it comes to celebrating our furry friends we don't really wait for a certain day of the year to express our love and joy for having them in our lives. However, what if we told you that today is National Puppy Day, celebrated widely in the US? Are you going crazy with excitement? Read on to find you how to celebrate this day.
History of National Puppy Day
March 23 has been celebrated as National Puppy Day in the States since 2006. Dog trainer, author, and founder of the Day, Colleen Paige's aim is to help more and more pups get rescued and adopted. Animal shelters see a huge intake of dogs around summer and that is why people should step in, adopt a dog and save lives, and also encourage others.
How to celebrate: Throw a party
This is a great opportunity to get your puppies all decked up for a party in their honor! You can prepare their favorite foods, of course not anything that's harmful to them, but natural foods that are good for their health. Invite your friends who are pet parents as well with their pups, and let them all have a beautiful playdate in your backyard.
How to celebrate: Have a pup photo shoot
Get your fur-baby ready for a photo shoot. Arrange your choice of props around them and have them look at the camera. You have to be a patient photographer to get the best shots. A trick to keep them looking at the camera is to hold their favorite snack near the camera. Don't forget to reward them after a good click.
How to celebrate: Get your puppy a new toy
Chew toys are best for young pups, because of their habit of chewing everything at that age. You can also get a custom-made plush toy or a miniature figure that looks exactly like your puppy. Although it might seem more of gifting yourself than your pup, who'd want to miss out on a chance of having something so cute at home?
How to celebrate: Teach your puppy something new
You can help with advanced dog training, or simply teach them a trick and reward them when they do it right. Teaching early has its benefits, they pick up sooner and remember well. You can teach your pup tricks like hugging, playing dead, and rolling over. You can also teach your pup to bring you your shoes (or anything) before you leave for work.
