    Expert reveals how nutrients are crucial in hepatitis recovery

    However, the good news is that there are treatment options available to mitigate disease progression and improve the quality of life for those affected.

    On World Hepatitis Day, NewsBytes got in touch with Ms. Yashna Garg, CMO, Zeon Lifesciences Ltd, who shared insights into how nutrients aid in hepatitis recovery.

    Nutrient 1

    Vitamin A

    Vitamin A is a vital nutrient in bolstering immune function, which is crucial for fighting off infections.

    "It functions as an antioxidant, protecting the liver from harm caused by oxidative stress," says Garg.

    To incorporate more vitamin A into their daily diet, she recommends those with hepatitis add specific sources like carrots, sweet potatoes, cantaloupe, and spinach.

    Vitamin C

    "Another potent antioxidant, vitamin C has a substantial role in promoting liver health. It not only shields the liver from damage but also assists in restoring damaged cells," states Garg.

    Patients suffering from hepatitis or those who are looking to keep their liver healthy can savor citrus fruits, berries, broccoli, and sprouts as they are loaded with this nutrient.

    Nutrient 3

    Vitamin E

    "Vitamin E comes as yet another antioxidant that delivers protective benefits to the liver and helps reduce inflammation that contributes to liver damage," reveals the CMO of Zeon Lifesciences.

    This makes it a great nutrient to consume for improving liver health.

    "Some of the excellent sources of vitamins in this regard include almonds, sunflower seeds, spinach, and avocado," she adds.

    Selenium 

    Selenium is a powerful nutrient that offers stellar benefits to the liver.

    "It safeguards the liver from damage and augments the process of detoxification," says Garg.

    Wondering what to consume? "Brazil nuts, tuna, salmon, and whole grains are excellent dietary sources of selenium to ensure a healthy liver," she suggests.

    Nutrient 5

    Zinc

    "Zinc plays an instrumental role in sustaining liver health. It assists in the repair of damaged cells for enhanced liver functionality and well-being," shares Garg with NewsBytes.

    Patients with chronic liver diseases (CLDs) usually have lower concentrations of zinc. So you can stock up on foods such as oysters, beef, chicken, and beans as they are some of the immaculate sources of zinc.
