Wisdom tooth pain: These home remedies can offer relief
Having a wisdom tooth is a painful experience and can be daunting enough to deal with. The pain occurs because there isn't enough space (and need!) to accommodate an additional tooth that sprouts out suddenly at the corner of one's jaw. So until your next appointment with the dentist, try these five natural and home remedies to find instant respite from wisdom tooth pain.
Salt water rinse
Salt water rinse is among the best remedies to relieve any kind of toothache. Salt, which is loaded with anti-inflammatory properties, also reduces pain, swelling, and discomfort induced by a wisdom tooth. All you have to do is, stir two tablespoons of salt in 250 ml of lukewarm water and squish it in your mouth for 15 seconds. Repeat this multiple times a day.
Clove oil
Clove oil is packed with eugenol, a chemical agent that is abundant with strong antibacterial and anesthetic properties. It is also antifungal and anti-inflammatory, which is why it can help you steer clear of any infections caused by a wisdom tooth. Grab a small piece of cotton, dunk it in some clove oil, and gently wipe the gums surrounding the tooth for immediate effect.
Guava leaves
Guava leaves can come to your rescue when nothing else does for your wisdom tooth-induced pain. Rich in anti-spasm properties, these leaves have disinfecting qualities that can prevent swelling and cut down on the risk of infections too. Simply chew on them slowly so that they release their juice well. You can even boil them in water and use the mixture as a mouthwash.
Baking soda paste
Here's another remedy that can reduce the level of pain within a few minutes after its application. To make this, take some amount of your favorite toothpaste, put it in a small container or bowl, and mix in some baking soda. Form a paste and massage it directly on and around your wisdom tooth. Rinse your mouth after a few minutes.
Turmeric
There are several health benefits of turmeric that are backed by science including that it offers respite from toothache. The curcumin compound present in it has a good amount of analgesic properties which can mitigate your wisdom tooth pain. Make a fine paste of turmeric, salt, and mustard oil, and rub it on the area affected for some relief.
