Hermes offers single paper envelope for $125; internet in disbelief
Hermes International, the renowned French luxury brand, has introduced a reusable paper envelope priced at around $125 (Rs. 10,413) as part of its upscale stationery line. Made in France, the silk-wrapped envelope is available in two sizes, A4 and A5. People's opinions on the item are divided, with some deeming it overpriced and others seeing it as a status symbol.
Here is what the description of the envelope reads
The description of this unique envelope, as stated on the Hermes official website, reads, "Wrapped in silk, reusable, and coming in two different sizes (A4 and A5), this keepsake can be sent as a special invitation or even a declaration of love. A long-lasting way to turn your records into beautiful memories."
Other items that went viral owing to their hefty prices
The New York Post reports that Hermes offers a variety of envelope designs, informing customers that "the patterns and the colors of your product will be a surprise." The luxury label also carries a range of expensive paperweights, such as the 7.5-inch Samarcande model, which retails for $2,950 (Rs. 245,775). According to the US Hermes site, the Samarcande chess set knight was transformed into a paperweight in 2011 and has been "reinvented in bronze" this season.
A TikToker gave an enthusiastic review of Hermes products
In a TikTok video from November, Benton McClintock reviewed several Hermes luxury products, including a $1,350 (Rs. 112,485) mushroom paperweight. McClintock jokingly inquired, "How are you keeping your papers from flying away without a Hermes mushroom paperweight?" One viewer commented on the video, expressing disbelief at the price and initially mistaking the mushroom for a stool: "I thought the mushroom was a stool at first, thinking damn, that's expensive for a stool; no way, that's how much a paperweight is."
Why are Hermes products super expensive?
The majority of Hermes's merchandise, if not all of it, is handmade, which is the primary cause of their high price. The production of these goods has long been regarded as an artistic endeavor, and the luxury brand takes great pride in its exclusive items. The brand's elusive range also comprises the popular Berkin Bag. Although this item can be purchased for as little as $10,000, one design - which included more than 2,000 platinum-set diamonds - reached $1.9 million!
