Harry Potter turns 43! Friendship lessons from the series
Harry Potter has our whole heart (and childhood!) as the story is far beyond just magic and a boy fighting an evil wizard. He's one character that most of us have dreamed of having as a boon companion, especially because he brings so much to friendships and life. As Harry Potter turns 43 today, let us inculcate some learnings about friendship from this series.
Forgive and understand your friends when they mess up
When the world was against Harry for participating in the Triwizard Tournament, he was quick to forgive everyone, especially Ron and Hermione, when they realized that it wasn't Harry but Barty Crouch Jr. disguised as Professor Alastor Moody who cast a spell on the Goblet of Fire. Long-lasting friendships are made when you choose forgiveness over anger and trust over misunderstanding.
Stand up for your friends when needed
Remember how Ron stood up for Hermonie when Malfoy calls her "mud blood"? Or when the entire gang (Ron, Hermonie, Ginni, Neville, and Luna) comes to Harry's support against Professor Umbridge? Well, that's what real friends do - they show up! "We are only as strong as we are united, as weak as we are divided," said Dumbledor.
A real friend is no less than a home
For Harry, the real meaning of home lies in Hogwarts, as he says, "I'm not going home, not really" at the end of The Philosopher's Stone. And what makes it so is the time he spends with Ron and Hermonie. In that context, a home is not a place with four walls, but a place where people you love the most are.
Help your friends, even if they don't ask
Hermonie reminds Harry that he is not alone in the quest of searching for Horcruxes and that both she and Ron are going to join him on this journey. Despite knowing that it could cost them their lives, Hermonie says to Harry, "You don't really think you're going to be able to find all those Horcruxes by yourself, do you?" Need we say more?
