Tips to fix and repair your favorite jeans
Nothing is more satisfying than finding the ideal pair of jeans that fits you well. However, finding the ideal fit, though, is not always easy. But once you get the ideal pair of jeans, you won't want to part with them, regardless of a mishap or a tear on the jeans. This is where hacks come in handy. Check out a few.
No more tight waists
Have you ever had a pair of jeans where the waist is the only place they don't quite fit? Use a hair tie to extend the reach of a too-tight button rather than fumbling with it. It only takes a few steps to provide instant comfort without losing style. Just loop the hair tie through the buttonhole and hook it around the button.
Get softer jeans
With overuse, your jeans may get tougher on the surface. For this, use sandpaper to help smooth out your jeans. It gives the denim a softer, smoother and lived-in appearance. If you merely want to soften your denim, use a less coarse grit (not-so-rough sandpaper) because the coarser it is, the more holes it will produce in the fabric.
Deal with too long jeans
To shorten very long jeans without sewing, fold the excess length inward and iron it to create a makeshift hem. Then, use double-sided fashion tape on the inside of the jeans and adhere it to the hem. Wait for about five minutes, and your jeans should be ready to wear. However, this method is not permanent and may not hold up after washing.
Shrink jeans
If your jeans have become loose and no longer fit you snugly, you can reduce them back to size. Turn them inside out and wash them in the washing machine without any other clothing. Don't use fabric softener and use your washing machine's "hot" setting instead. Hot water can cause the denim to contract, making the jeans potentially restore their original fit.
Fix crotch holes
Use scissors to remove the frayed edges of the hole. Your jeans may rip more due to the frayed areas of the hole. Use cotton thread of matching color to thread a sewing needle. Keep your jeans inside out. Now, close the hole with a pinch, then stitch either side vertically. Cut off any extra thread after tying the thread off.
