Navigating through relationships: Expert reveals the top green flags
In relationships, it's essential to focus not only on recognizing potential warning signs but also on acknowledging positive indicators, often referred to as "green flags." These partner characteristics serve as the cornerstone for trust, development, and enduring love. You have likely found the right partner if all these green signals are in check. Relationship coach Jeevika Sharma helps us identify these indicators.
They are loyalty
According to Sharma, one of the most significant green flags in a relationship is loyalty. Loyalty isn't solely about remaining faithful to your partner; it also involves being transparent and honest. This means not hiding any information or lying to your partner. "No matter the nature of the information, whether it's positive or heart-breaking, your partner should always be truthful," she advises.
They do not humiliate you
Another green flag is when your partner does not humiliate you either in public or in private. No humiliation should be taken lightly. "If your partner does not laugh at your mistakes in public or private, it is a clear green flag," says Sharma. Mistakes could be pointed out personally and in private to be rectified then and there.
They make you feel valued
Your partner should make you feel wanted and important. If that's the case, then you are with the right person. "This could be conveyed both verbally or through actions. It could be prioritizing you over any other person," says Sharma. Additionally, a person who does not judge their partner based on looks and habits is a living example of a green flag.
They handle the situation
Disagreements and conflicts are natural aspects of any relationship. "If your partner does not argue or go silent and instead resolve the issues peacefully, then you have a partner who knows how to handle things maturely in a relationship," Sharma says. Green flags are evident when one approaches conflicts with empathy, respect, and a willingness to find common ground.
They are happy for your success
"A major green flag is when your partner is happy about your success and celebrates your achievement. A worthy, good partner never feels inferior in a relationship," says Sharma. Additionally, your partner should refrain from speaking negatively about you or supporting anyone who critiques you, as noted by the relationship coach. "Respecting your partner in their absence is also a positive sign," she adds.
