Famous summer street drinks to enjoy this season
What's the story
The summer season is here and so are those days when we just can't stop sweating.
And while staying indoors with our air conditioners switched on at the minimum temperature isn't always possible, there is a variety of street drinks that you can easily prepare at home or relish when stepping outdoors.
Stay cool this season with these five refreshing beverages.
Drink 1
Bael sherbet
Bael sherbet is a summer favorite, for it's delicious and nutritious at the same time.
It is a flavorsome cure for heatstroke, dehydration, and upset stomach, all of which are pretty common to experience during the hot summer days.
Break the woody outer shell of the bel and scoop out the pulp. Mash it, add lemon and honey, and strain. Add water and ice.
Drink 2
Banta
Also called goti soda, banta is probably the oldest summer street drink that has been existing in India since the 19th century.
This salty-sweet lemonade is made of lemon, salt, sugar, black pepper, and soda, which makes it incredibly fresh and hydrating.
To make this at home, add lemon, salt, black pepper, powdered sugar, water, soda, and ice. Shake well and drink.
Drink 3
Coconut water
When it comes to nourishment and hydration, there is nothing quite like nariyal pani or coconut water.
Available at almost every nook and cranny of the streets, it's best sipped fresh and at normal temperature.
Abundant with minerals and electrolytes including potassium, manganese, and amino acids, this natural beverage can save you from many heat-induced health conditions.
Drink 4
Lassi
From streetside shops to fancy restaurants, lassi is one lip-smacking summer beverage that you can find everywhere.
Available in a host of flavors, this drink is made using yogurt, water, salt, sugar, milk, and some spices and herbs, which makes it the go-to summer cooler for many.
You can also prepare it at your home using the same ingredients as per your taste preferences.
Drink 5
Sattu
Sattu makes summers more tolerable as it is made using roasted channa dal and is extremely refreshing. It is loaded with potassium, fiber, and protein, which also makes it wholesome.
Add sattu powder, water, chopped onions, chopped green chilies, chaat masala, chopped coriander, black pepper, lemon, and bhuna jeera.
Mix well and add some ice cubes. Drink it chilled.
