Hungary offers a wealth of family-friendly activities and experiences that will add to the fun and memories of your vacation. From historic fortresses and stunning castles to beautiful rivers, there's something for everyone in your kin to look forward to. Here are some interesting things you should do if you are visiting Hungary with your spouse and kids.
Explore Fisherman's Bastion
Constructed in the 1800s for the Hungarian Millennium festivities, this fictitious fortress has pointed spires and turrets that evoke the charm of Disney World's fantasy castles. You can cherish some beautiful views of Budapest by going down the steps and along the upper terrace of the bastion. It's open 24x7. Paying to access the towers and top terrace will give you a better view.
Reach atop the Gellert Hill
Gellert Hill is at an elevation of 235-meter (771-foot). This destination needs to be on your itinerary if you want to capture some breathtaking landscapes. Once you reach the top of the hill, the Citadel's enormous 19th century building will dominate the surrounding area. The breathtaking view of the Danube and the eight bridges spanning it add to its beauty.
Visit the Vajdahunyad Castle
Vajdahunyad Castle is an expansive complex that has 21 meticulous re-creations of Hungary's most remarkable and storied structures. The castle has four distinct areas that display architecture from the Gothic, Baroque, Renaissance, and Romanesque periods. It is further subdivided inside each portion, for a total of 21 smaller buildings that are connected together. A must visit!
Head over to Budapest Zoo & Botanical Garden
Founded in 1866, this is one of the oldest zoos in Europe. It houses a captive-bred hippopotamus colony as well as a lion and bear cub nursery. Because the zoo is so large, you will need to plan on spending several hours walking around to view every species. From polar bears and tigers to monkies, lions, and camels, there are so many animals there.
