Stand or sit with your arms extended in front of you, palms facing down.
Slowly rotate your wrists 10 times clockwise, then 10 times counterclockwise.
This exercise encourages a full range of motion, which is crucial for accurate color mixing.
Stretch
Stretching for range of motion
Stretching the wrists can also improve flexibility and prevent stiffness.
Extend one arm in front of you with the palm facing up.
Using your other hand, gently press down on the fingers of your extended hand until you feel a stretch in your wrist and forearm.
Hold this stretch for 15 seconds before switching hands. Repeat three times on each hand.
Grip
Grip strengthener exercises
Enhancing your grip strength will give you more control over brushes and palette knives, which are essential tools for color mixing.
Hold a grip strengthener tool or a soft tennis ball. Squeeze the tool or ball with one hand as hard as you can without it hurting, hold for five seconds, then release slowly.
Do three sets of 10 squeezes with each hand.
Flexor/extensor
Wrist flexor and extensor strengthening
To prevent imbalance in wrist muscles, train both flexors and extensors.
Rest forearm on a table with hand dangling off.
Hold a light weight, palm facing up, then raise and lower it; three sets of 12 reps.
Do the same with palm down to work the extensors.
This ensures balanced muscle development around the wrist.
Towel wring
Towel wring out for enhanced control
This exercise replicates the motion of wringing water out of a towel, but emphasizes one-handed execution to isolate and strengthen each wrist individually.
Hold a small towel and twist it as though wringing out water, but use only one hand.
Switch hands after 10 twists. Do three sets for each hand.
