Five easy tips to make your living space more eco-friendly
Even though we know that global warming, deforestation, climate change, and increasing levels of pollution hugely affect our planet, not many of us make enough efforts to make the situation any better. Starting from our workplace to our homes, we make choices that are harmful to our environment and, in turn, our health. But we can surely change it. Here are some tips.
Use energy-efficient lighting
This is perhaps the easiest and the most cost-effective way to turn your home or office greener. Easily available at retail and online stores, light-emitting diodes (LEDs) save so much energy and run for much longer than those conventional bulbs. Choose them to make your house greener, and to reduce your electricity bills. What's more? LED lights also tend to flicker less.
Monitor your water usage
Let's admit it- while showering, washing clothes, or doing dishes, we hardly bother how much water we end up wasting. Never open taps at the maximum force, it leads to water wastage. Also, close the tap, while pouring detergents or applying shampoo, and so on. Most importantly, get those leaky pipes/taps repaired, as soon as possible.
Go for recycled furniture
A small but effective change: Recycled furniture. You can either buy it or try out shops that redesign old furniture. This way, you will get a new product without killing any more trees. Revamping old furniture, instead of throwing it, is also a good idea.
Go paperless
Even in today's digital age, there are many households and offices that still register information on paper, thereby promoting tree-cutting and harming the environment. Start saving your documents digitally. Also, refuse to take physical bill copies. And, use a cloth towel instead of the paper one. Offices should also try to turn paperless, by maintaining records digitally, inviting job applications via internet, etc.
Say no to plastic
We all know that plastic is bad for the environment and our health, still, we are far from boycotting single-use plastic. These easy changes can help you reduce your plastic usage: Buy environment-friendly garbage bags. Use cloth bags for shopping. Say no to plastic cutlery, packets, containers, and bottles.
