Just a few steps out in the summer sun make you feel faint. This is because as we sweat, we lose electrolytes that are essential for several bodily functions. Electrolytes are minerals in our bodies that have an electric charge. They regulate the pH balance, hydration, muscle function, blood pressure and nerve function. Here are a few electrolyte-rich drinks for summer:
Coconut water
Natural coconut water is low in calories and sugar but rich in electrolytes like potassium and magnesium. However, it doesn't contain as much sodium to replace what we lose while sweating. Potassium is essential for the healthy functioning of the kidneys, and muscle contractions. Coconut water may also help promote heart health.
