Devika Khosla, creative director at The Works Interiors shared different home decor ideas to bring in the festive vibe on a limited budget in small spaces.
Rangoli designs
Drawing rangolis is an age-old custom that we still use to decorate our homes during Diwali. Despite the apartment size, Khosla suggests rangolis can bring in that festive feel. "Infuse cultural charm by crafting intricate rangoli designs, either by hand or using a stencil, setting a festive tone with vibrant floor art," she says. Consider incorporating colors or flower petals into your rangoli.
Decorative mirrors
Mirrors are another way to uplift the festive mood of the room. Khosla says, "Enhance aesthetics and brighten up your space by adorning walls with decorative mirrors that beautifully reflect light." If you have multiple mirrors, go for a statement wall by arranging mirrors of various sizes in different patterns. If you'd rather concentrate on a single mirror, opt for one that stands out.
Lighting effects
Add a touch of magic with string lights, draping them along windows, walls, or balconies to create an inviting, warm ambiance. You can also light up your apartment with candles or traditional diyas. These not only bring light but also a sense of warmth and tradition to your surroundings. Invest in decorative diyas of different shapes, patterns and colors for added effect.
Fresh blooms
Enhance your living space with a natural touch following Khosla's advice, "Bring nature indoors by arranging fresh or lifelike artificial flowers in vases, infusing vitality and color into your decor." Consider a quick trip to a nearby flower market for fresh bouquets, ideal for adorning entryways and tables. An eco-conscious alternative is to use indoor plants as decorative accents, promoting a serene ambiance.
Personal touch
"When living away from home, personal touches matter," notes Khosla. Displaying family photos on a wall adds a unique and touching element to your Diwali celebration. You could also place items that remind you of them. To further inject character into your decor, consider incorporating colorful silk cushions and throws, capturing the essence of Diwali and creating an inviting atmosphere.
