The much-awaited festival of lights, Diwali is just around the corner. But in case you are bored with the usual drill lately, and want to make your Diwali celebration a bit different, know that travel could be a great idea. Many non-resident Indians have made the festival pretty popular abroad. Here are five countries (other than India, of course) that love celebrating Diwali.
Mauritius
Located east of Madagascar in the Indian ocean, Mauritius is a place that celebrates Diwali with such zest that you won't feel that you're out of India. The country has a 63% Indian diaspora, out of which 80% follow Hinduism. Hence, celebration of Diwali, among other Hindu festivals, is commonplace in the country. Post festivities, enjoy the country's picturesque landscapes and beautiful beaches.
Nepal
Nestled in the foothills of Himalayas, Nepal has an 80% Hindu population. Hence, celebrations surrounding Diwali is pretty obvious in the country. Known as Tihar among the locals, the Diwali festivities continue for as many as five days. Indonesia
Although the majority of population in Indonesia follows Islam, Diwali is among the most revered festivals among locals in the popular island destination of Bali. And even when you are done with the celebrations, Bali has no dearth of things to do. Malaysia
Although the Hindu community doesn't comprise a big chunk of Malaysia's population, the locals take much pride in celebrating Diwali during this time of the year. Singapore
