Common nail polish mistakes that you need to avoid
Flawlessly manicured nails can elevate your entire appearance and give you more confidence and elegance. However, applying nail polish is an art, and just like any other art form, it has its share of difficulties. Here is a guide to help you improve your manicure game and avoid frequent mistakes when applying nail polish.
Not using a base coat
You must always use a base coat to ensure that your nail polish stays on and doesn't harm your nails. Neglecting the base coat can lead to stained nails and can negatively impact the longevity of your manicure. Always start with a quality base coat. It not only protects your nails but also provides a smooth surface for the polish to adhere to.
Shaking the nail polish bottle
Many of us have a habit of shaking the nail polish bottle before opening and applying it to our nails. However, this method just produces bubbles. Additionally, when we apply the shade to the nails, these bubbles can appear on the nails. Roll the bottle between your palms if you want to combine the mixture and nail polish.
Not sealing a top coat
Your nail polish will last longer if you apply a top coat. Applying a top coat will speed up the drying time of your nail polish and aid in creating a tougher, more durable finish. However, make sure to not apply a thick coat. Always brush off the excess on the sides of the bottle. A thin top coat would give an even surface.
Wrong brush strokes
Don't paint your nails in a single stroke. Instead, paint each nail with three or four strokes for a longer-lasting, uniform finish. Swipe down toward the tip of the fingernail starting in the middle, close to the tips of your fingertips, avoiding contact with the cuticles. Then, go back to the top and swipe in the same fashion down the left and right sides.
Not applying extra on the nail tip
We often overlook adding more to the tips of our nails. That's one of the main causes why we have tips that are chipping. After covering all of the nails with a topcoat, remove any excess and use the brush to apply it horizontally to the nail tips. It will extend the life of the nail paint and stop it from chipping.
