Revisiting F. Scott Fitzgerald's top books on his birth anniversary
F. Scott Fitzgerald was a popular American novelist and short story writer who died at the age of 44 in 1940. He has been a mass favorite for his depictions of the Jazz Age and is still remembered today for his excellent works (and words!). On his birth anniversary, let's remember the late author by revisiting some of his best books ever.
'The Great Gatsby'
This is probably the most famous and loved work of Fitzgerald. It was his third book and an absolute masterpiece! It describes the Jazz Age and takes you back to the 1920 version of the US, with the story revolving around the fancy and wealthy Jay Gatsby and his love Daisy Buchanan. It is flamboyant, rich, exquisite, and "wildly addictive" as readers call it.
'Tender is the Night'
The plot of this book is about a tragic love story of a young actor named Rosemary Hoyt and the stylish American couple Dick and Nicole Diver. Dick is married to Nicole and is also her psychiatrist. As she begins to heal, the man sets to lose his vitality and immerses in alcoholism, failure, and complete anonymity.
'This Side of the Paradise'
Published in 1920, 'This Side of Paradise' was the first novel written by Fitzgerald. While you might find it somewhat irrelevant today, it provided a fresh perspective on morality during the Jazz Age in the US. The story revolves around Amory Blaine, a young and handsome man who attends Princeton, engages in literary activities, and experiences a series of ill-fated loves.
'The Beautiful and Damned'
This book was published in 1922 and was Fitzgerald's second novel. It captures the life story of a young couple Anthony and Gloria, who are simply waiting to receive an inheritance instead of doing anything substantial and productive in their lives. Anthony thinks his small income is enough to sustain them, however, things begin to go down south with delayed inheritance.
