Basic table manners everyone should follow
Did you ever get a scolding from your parents for spilling food on the table or your clothes? Yes, we have all been there! To get those food outings and family dinners right, you need to know about good table manners. Here are basic table etiquette rules you should follow, every time you sit to eat.
Napkin etiquette
Once seated, start off with the small piece of cloth, kept on the side of your plate. Unfold it and keep it half folded on your lap, with the folds opening toward you. Use it gently to wipe the corners of your mouth (and not your face). When you are done eating, keep the napkin back to the left side of your plate, unfolded.
Handle with care
The cutlery should ideally be placed in order of its use. To get it right, place your spoons and knives on the right side of your plate and forks on the left. Always hold the fork in your left hand and the knife in your right hand. Once you are done eating, place the knives and forks at the center of your plate.
Food etiquette
When dishes are being served, pass them from left to right. Also, don't start eating right away, let the host begin. In case you are having soup, scoop it with a soup spoon, bring it close to your mouth and sip it from sides of the spoon (without the slurp sound). While eating desserts, break it first, and eat them piece by piece.
A few more table manners you should mind
1) Never use your phone while eating. Keep it aside, preferably on silent mode. 2) Do not chew with your mouth open. 3) Don't rest your elbows on the table. 4) Never add salt or pepper before tasting your food. 5) Don't eat your food too hot. 6) Don't drink water while chewing your food. 7) Learn them all, and impress your gang!
