Avoid buying cosmetic products which have these ingredients

    What's the story

Do you read labels before buying your skincare products? If not, then you might be putting yourself at risk.

Many skincare and makeup products contain harmful chemicals, that can have severe repercussions on your skin and body.

Avoid the temptation of choosing cheaper alternatives or purchasing cosmetics from unreliable sources.

Finally, if the products have these chemicals, put them down and walk away.

    Ingredient 1

    Oxybenzone

Found mostly in sunscreens, oxybenzone is used as a chemical filter. When absorbed by the skin, it can cause allergies or even hormonal disruptions.

It is used as an ingredient in sunscreen and other cosmetics because it absorbs UV-A ultraviolet rays.

However, dermatologists advise using a mineral sunscreen instead, as their formulations contain titanium dioxide that protects you by deflecting the sunlight.

    Ingredient 2

    Formaldehyde

Formaldehyde is commonly seen in hair straightening products, nail polish, and eyelash glue, among other products.

Also referred to as formalin, glyoxal, and bronopol, formaldehyde is used as a preservative to prolong shelf life and prevent bacterial contamination.

It is associated with an increased risk of nasopharyngeal and sinonasal cancers, as well as a type of leukemia, as per reports.

    Ingredient 3

    Lead

Lead is a common ingredient in cosmetics found mostly in kajal and lipsticks.

Problems arise when companies add more than the prescribed percentage of lead content to the products.

Since lead does not irritate or cause allergies, its presence does not cause severe skin reactions. However, once absorbed by the body, it can cause side effects like exhaustion and irritation.

    Ingredient 4

    Alcohol

Typically included in items like perfumes, astringents, lotions, creams, and serums, alcohol in cosmetics might refer to ethanol, methanol, denatured alcohol, or ethyl alcohol.

Alcohol is usually added to the products to improve the overall feel of the product as well as a possible preservative.

However, excessive use of alcohol-induced products can cause extreme dryness, skin peeling, and structural integrity loss.

    Ingredient 5

    Phthalates

Phthalates are used commonly in fragrance-related products as binding agents, mainly perfume sticks, hair sprays, deodorants, lotions, shampoos, and nail polish.

Phthalates are substantial endocrine disruptors, contributing to early puberty in some children and reducing sperm count in men.

As per some reports, it is also linked with respiratory and neurological problems and behavioral issues.
