Meet Soundarya, Kannada news channel's first AI anchor
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is gradually reshaping the way we consume various aspects of our lives. The recent industry to go through a change is the Indian TV news market. Kannada channel Power TV has now launched the first AI news presenter in Karnataka. The AI presenter has been named Soundarya by the management. The first news program featuring Soundarya, debuted on Tuesday.
Soundarya's debut episode
In the first episode that aired, Soundarya introduced herself by saying, "Hello everyone. AI is leaving its footprint in every industry, and it has entered the TV news industry as well." "A few of my colleagues (AI news presenters) started presenting news on some of the channels in north India. I am Soundarya, south India's first robotic anchor by Power TV."
India's first AI anchor
Reportedly, the Power TV management will be experimenting with various news shows, featuring Soundarya. Previously in March, India Today group's Hindi channel Aaj Tak introduced the first AI news presenter in the nation named Sana. On the news channel, she gives updates on current events and responds to audience questions in real time. Additionally, Sana can speak multiple languages on the platform.
Other regional AI anchors
A few other national television networks have also created their own newsreaders that are driven by AI. Odisha TV, an Indian cable television network in Odisha, recently launched Lisa. Lisa is the first AI news anchor in Odisha. After she wowed a large audience with her great newscast in both English and Odia, she quickly gained popularity online.
AI in news channels
With the introduction of artificial intelligence-powered virtual news anchors, journalism has undergone a radical transformation. Today more and more news channels, both in India and abroad are introducing AI anchors. Although AI in news presentation has only started, it needs to go a long way to replace human intelligence.
