2-year-old German prodigy's artwork fetches up to $7,000
Laurent Schwarz, a two-year-old artist from Germany, is creating a stir in the art world with his paintings selling for as much as $7,000 each (₹583,000 approx). His artistic talent was first discovered during a family vacation last fall when he displayed an intense interest in the activities room at their resort. Upon returning home, his parents Lisa and Philipp Schwarz set up a studio for him and were astounded by his vibrant creations.
Laurent's artistic style and social media popularity
Laurent's artwork characterizes abstracts with discernible figures. "You can recognize his animals, like elephants which are one of his favorite animals, as well as dinosaurs and horses. It's very important to him that it's bright and colorful. Brown and other boring colors don't interest him. He has very clear ideas about the colors he mixes," Lisa Schwarz explained to The Times of London. To showcase her son's work, Lisa created an Instagram account @laurents.art which quickly amassed over 29,000 followers.
Laurent's artwork exhibited globally, earnings saved for future
The positive feedback on social media led Lisa to start selling Laurent's artwork online. His paintings have been exhibited at Munich's largest art fair, ART MUC, and sold to buyers worldwide. A gallery in New York City is currently discussing the possibility of exhibiting some of Laurent's pieces. Nearly all of his existing creations have been sold with some fetching nearly $7,000 each. All earnings are being saved in a bank account for Laurent to access when he turns 18.
Laurent's artistic freedom and recognition at Munich art fair
Lisa Schwarz emphasizes that she encourages her son's passion and talents. She remarked that it was entirely his decision when and what he painted. She mentioned that there were times when he didn't feel like painting and would stay away from his studio for weeks. However, suddenly, the urge would strike him, and he would say, "Mama, painting." At the Munich art fair last month, Laurent was able to identify two of his paintings among thousands on display.
Toddler artists making headlines globally
While Laurent is gaining international attention with his talent, another toddler artist from Ghana has recently made headlines. Ace-Liam Nana Sam Ankrah, who began painting when he was just six months old, has been recognized by the Guinness World Records as the world's youngest artist. His work has been exhibited at the Museum of Science and Technology in Ghana's capital, Accra.
