Magnificent and iconic
Lakshmi Vilas Palace
One of the most iconic and magnificent palaces in India, the famous Lakshmi Vilas Palace was built in 1890 by Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III.
Spread across 500 acres with over 170 rooms, it is one of the largest private residences in India. It is four times bigger than London's Buckingham Palace.
The palace is designed in Indo-Saracenic style architecture featuring arches and domes.
Mesmerizing lake
Sur Sagar Lake
Also called Chand Talao, the Sur Sagar Lake was built in the 18th century by Shri Sureshwar Desai.
Located in the center of the city, this mesmerizing lake has several underground gates to manage water in case it overflows.
There is a 120-foot-tall Lord Shiva statue installed in the middle of the lake. You can sit and relax here, enjoying the cool ambiance.
Temple of Fame
Kirti Mandir
Built in 1936 by Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III, the beautiful Kirti Mandir, or the Temple of Fame is a group of temples dedicated to Lord Shiva.
It was built in memory of the members of the Baroda royal family.
Situated near Vadodara's Vishwamitri Bridge, the structure features domes, tombs, terraces, and a 35-meter-high central shikhara.
The interiors are adorned with intricately carved murals.
Spacious bungalow
Sri Aurobindo Ashram
Situated in Dandia Bazaar, Sri Aurobindo Ashram is a spacious bungalow that features around 23 rooms along with a study room, a library, and a sales emporium.
Famous Indian philosopher, yogi, and nationalist, Sri Aurobindo Ghosh resided in this bungalow from 1894 to 1906.
Open from 9:00 am-7:00 pm, you will find books written by Ghosh here along with relics of him.
Largest public gardens
Sayaji Garden
One of the most popular tourist places in Vadodara, Sayaji Garden, or Kamati Baug was built by Maharaja Sayajirao in 1879.
Situated on the banks of Vadodara's Vishwamitri River, the garden has an area of 113 acres which makes it one of the largest public gardens in Western India.
The park is popularly known for its flowerbed clock and the Sayaji Toy Train.
