A common condition that most people suffer from, earache can be caused when the Eustachian tube in the ear gets filled with fluid which leads to blockage and pressure build-up behind the eardrum. The pain is usually a mix of dull and sharp sensations, causing annoyance and discomfort. Although harmless, these natural and home remedies can help alleviate and provide relief for this sensation.
Garlic
Packed with anti-inflammatory properties, garlic helps eliminate various bacteria from the body and gives relief from pain, swelling, and inflammation. Crush garlic cloves and mix them with coconut oil. Apply this mixture around your ears to soothe the ear pain. However, do not put it inside the ears. You can also eat one garlic clove every day to reduce the pain.
Ajwain
Also known as yavani in Ayurveda, ajwain helps to treat ear infections and the pain and discomfort associated with them. It has anti-inflammatory properties which can also help reduce toothaches and stomach pain. Add a few garlic cloves, and ajwain seeds to sesame oil and boil the mixture until it turns red. Filter the oil and apply it as drops around the ear.
Apple cider vinegar
According to studies, apple cider vinegar can modify the pH level of the ear, creating an environment where bacteria, fungi, and viruses struggle to survive. It contains acetic acid that has antibacterial properties which helps kill bacteria and prevent earaches. Dilute apple cider vinegar with warm water, soak a cotton bud in the mixture and apply around the infected ear to soothe the pain.
Basil leaf juice
Known as the "elixir of life" in Ayurveda, basil leaf juice can help treat several conditions due to its anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, and therapeutic properties. It can be used to cure minor ear pain and infections. Crush basil leaves to extract the juice. Add coconut oil to the juice and mix well. Apply it as ear drops to the infected ear to reduce pain.
Ginger
The antibiotic, pain-relieving, and anti-inflammatory properties of ginger make it an effective home remedy for treating mild earaches. Crush some fresh ginger and extract the juice. Mix the juice with warm olive oil. Apply this mixture around the outer ear canal to get relief from the pain and inflammation. Do not put it directly into the ear to prevent any damage.
