Kargil War Memorial
Situated on the Srinagar-Leh highway, the Kargil War Memorial was built in memory of the officers and soldiers of the Indian Army who sacrificed their lives during the 1999 India-Pakistan conflict. The memorial is a pink sandstone wall having a brass plate with the names of gallant soldiers. The memorial is set against a stunning backdrop of Tololing Hill, Batra Top, and Tiger Hill.
India Gate
Located in central Delhi, India Gate is one of the most well-known war memorials in the country. Inaugurated in 1931, it pays homage to almost one lakh soldiers of the British Indian Army who sacrificed their lives in the First World War and the Third Anglo-Indian War. On Republic Day, the Indian government holds a rally with three branches of the Indian Military performing.
Tawang War Memorial
Located in Arunachal Pradesh, the Tawang War Memorial is a Buddhist stupa built in 1962. It pays homage to the Indian martyrs who sacrificed their lives and the brave heart Jaswant Singh Rawat who all alone controlled the invading Chinese for 72 hours. He was positioned at an altitude of 10,000 feet during the 1962 Indo-China war before succumbing to the enemy bullet.
National War Memorial
The only war memorial in South Asia to be built with the contributions of the citizens, the National War Memorial in Southern Command, Pune is dedicated to the soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the many disputes on Indian borders post-independence. The construction of the memorial was started in 1997 and was completed in 1998 through the help of Pune's Express Citizen Forum.
Victory at Sea Memorial
Located close to Ramakrishna Beach in Vizag, the Victory at Sea Memorial is dedicated to the Eastern Naval Command and the Indian Navy who lost their lives in the 1971 war with Pakistan. The memorial was inaugurated in 1996 and includes decommissioned equipment and a tri-service representation of artifacts from three branches of the military. It tells a lot about the life of soldiers.
