Laundry hacks to save time and effort
Laundry is a perpetual chore. From sorting to folding, it can be time-consuming and quite tedious. However, with the right hacks, you can streamline the process and reclaim some precious time in your day. From quick fixes to wrinkles to clever solutions like fast drying, let us learn five hacks that will not only save time but also simplify this household task.
Clean clothes
You likely have a bottle of distilled white vinegar in your kitchen, commonly used for cooking or cleaning. Consider keeping another bottle in the laundry room for an effective laundry hack, especially for white clothes. Distilled white vinegar is nearly indispensable for ensuring that laundry emerges from the washer appearing clean and bright with each wash cycle.
Deodorize
Baking soda enhances the efficacy of your laundry products and serves as a substitute for some. If conventional fabric softeners leave your towels lacking absorbency, opt for baking soda in the rinse cycle instead. Additionally, augment the whitening and cleansing capabilities of both chlorine and oxygen bleach by incorporating one cup of baking soda into the wash water when using bleach.
Small garments
Prior to placing smaller garments in the dryer, add a couple of dry bath towels. They aid in absorbing excess moisture and expediting the drying process. Another helpful tip involves hand-washing small garments and utilizing your kitchen salad spinner by giving them several spins. This removes moisture without subjecting the fabric to excessive wringing or twisting, which could potentially damage the material.
Use ice
Forgetting to quickly remove clothes from the dryer often results in wrinkles. To smooth out the wrinkled shirt without ironing, remove the other clothes, add ice cubes and the shirt to the dryer, and tumble on a high heat for at least 10 minutes. Once done, hang the shirt immediately to let the steam from the melting ice relax the fabric, reducing wrinkles.
Use hair conditioner to reverse shrinking
Sometimes accidents happen, like putting your woolen sweater in the dryer, causing it to shrink considerably. Reverse it by preparing a mixture of cool water and hair conditioner, then immersing the shrunken sweater in it. Allow it to soak for a minimum of 30 minutes. The conditioner helps loosen the wool fibers, enabling you to carefully stretch the sweater back to its original size.
