Hand sanitizers: Here's how to make them at home
What's the story
Hand sanitizers have been available in the market for a long time, but their demand surged significantly during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Why buy them when you can easily make them at home?
Crafting effective hand sanitizers at home is simple, using ingredients readily available in your bathroom cabinet.
As Covid cases resurface in parts of India, consider creating your own personal hand sanitizer.
Hack 1
Aloe vera hand sanitizer
Take two-three cups of rubbing alcohol that has at least 91% or higher concentration of alcohol.
Mix this with 1/3 cup of fresh gel from the leaves of the aloe vera plant or buy it from the market.
Optionally, you can add a few drops of your favorite essential oil and then give this solution a nice mix. Your aloe vera sanitizer is ready!
Hack 2
White vinegar hand sanitizer
White vinegar is believed to have potent antibacterial agents that kill 99% of bacteria.
Interestingly, it can be used for both topical applications as well as for consumption purposes. It is also non-toxic and non-polluting, which further makes it more effective to use.
Simply spray it on your palms and rub it. If you dislike its odor, rub an essential oil too.
Hack 3
Tea tree oil
Tea tree oil is another fantastic hand sanitizer when you couple it with water and castile soap.
This is because tea tree oil is loaded with antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal, and anti-inflammatory compounds that kill bacteria and keep you safe from various infections.
All you have to do is, pour a few drops of this oil on your palms and rub well.
Hack 4
Hand sanitizer wet wipes
Get some wipes, fold or roll them as you want, and place them inside a container or jar of your choice.
Now, separately, add some aloe vera gel, high-proof alcohol, and glycerin in a bowl and mix it well.
Pour this mixture onto the wipes until they are fully soaked. It's done! Use these wipes to clean your palms.
Hack 5
Lavender hand sanitizer
Begin by adding some fresh aloe vera gel and 91% to 99% rubbing alcohol. Whisk well.
Once done, add some argan oil, along with other essential oils like lavender, lime, and orange. Stir thoroughly to achieve a harmonious combination of scents and benefits.
Now pour this mixture into a spray bottle and use it on your palms to kill bacteria.
