Increase your intake of vitamin C
Including vitamin C in your everyday diet can protect your body from the risk of developing UTIs. Vitamin C helps kill the bacteria that cause the infection by increasing the acidity of urine. You can include vitamin C-enriched fruits and vegetables in your diet like grapefruit, oranges, kiwifruit, and red peppers. It will also help boost your immunity levels.
Drink cranberry juice
According to studies, cranberry juice is highly effective in preventing UTI symptoms. This healthy juice contains an active ingredient called proanthocyanidins that prevent the bacteria from attaching to urinary tract walls, thereby reducing your risk of developing UTIs. According to a study by the National Center for Biotechnology Information, cranberry juice can reduce the number of UTIs a person can develop over 12 months.
Have rice water daily
Rice water is extremely effective in reducing UTI symptoms like abdominal aches, itching, white discharge, and backache. It's an Ayurvedic remedy that helps with burning urination. Wash the rice in water and drain. Add water to a clay pot and close it for two-six hours. Macerate the rice in water for two-three hours and strain. Drink this daily throughout the day to prevent UTI.
Amla juice
Great for the urinary system, amla juice can prevent UTI, cool down your stomach, and help with the problem of frequent urination as well. Rich in vitamin C, it also helps improve your immunity. Add amla powder and turmeric powder to water and boil the solution until half of the water evaporates. Drink it thrice a day for five days straight.
Ginger tea
Packed with antimicrobial, healing, and anti-inflammatory properties, ginger tea can treat UTIs, and bladder infections and soothe inflamed muscles and inner linings which helps keep spasms at bay. Add fresh ginger roots and tea leaves to boiling water and simmer for some time. Add some honey and drink this tea twice daily. Alternatively, you can also chew ginger or drink ginger juice.
